Books I want…

Books I want...

Currently on my list of "want books" are the following...and for some reason for each of these I want the real live thing... not gonna settle for a Nook download this time baby. I want to hold it, share it, loan it, read it again, see the pictures, get them messy with batter while I'm cooking, dribble crumbs on them while on the couch reading... you get the idea :)Super Natural Every Day by Heidi SwansonThis book isn't actually being released until April, but I can assure you I am already … [Read more...]

Miso Soup

Miso Soup

So I have been feeling a little under the weather. I had a rough cold right after Christmas and through New Years and I don't think my body truly purged it because it snuck up on me again a few days ago. The weird part is I have not been sick in almost a year. I owe that to my healthy diet and lifestyle. But when I do get sick I try to stay away from over the counter drugs and antibiotics because I believe in my body's ability to naturally heal itself. I am not saying I will never take medicine … [Read more...]

Skinny Bitchin’

Sometimes I feel like I need a reminder, or perhaps just a swift kick in the behind, about why I dedicate myself to Green Livin' and Green Eatin'. It is usually when I am watching the Food Network. Oh how I love the Food Network. Or did. I'm not sure which. But since my Veggie journey began (almost a year ago now) my interest for the Food Network has filtered down a bit because the shows I used to love-- Iron Chef, Chopped, Top Chef, etc. kind of discourage me now. I don't enjoy watching meat … [Read more...]

Smoothilicious!

Smoothilicious!

So I have been on a real smoothie kick lately. I was inspired through a blog I've been following lately, Kristen's Raw. She gives tons of healthy juicing and smoothie ideas. I don't follow a true Raw Diet, but I try to incorporate as many raw fruits and veggies into my diet as possible because there are SO many more nutrients and enzymes in raw foods. yumm. For more info on Raw eating read this article. Anyway, the smoothie thing works perfect for me because my life is so chaotic and they are … [Read more...]

Carmel-Apple Spice Cupcakes

Mmmmmm these are delicious! I got inspired while flipping through my cookbook Veganomicon, and this recipe certainly caught my eye. H2O, Water Bottles & Recycling…Thoughts for Today

H2O, Water Bottles & Recycling...Thoughts for Today

So for Christmas I bought my mother a filtered water pitcher for her fridge--a Brita Pitcher. I asked her today how she liked it and if she was using it. Her response was: "I love it! It tastes like clean mountain water and it's absolutely delicious! I'm never going back to bottles!" THANK GOODNESS I thought. My mother, my best friend, the wonderful woman that she is---she's a Vegetarian, she recycles, she is health conscious, she cares about her mind, her body and the planet--WAS STILL BUYING … [Read more...]

Raw Eating

I have discovered recently that I am fascinated by the idea of the Raw Diet or Raw Eating. This blogger, author, former body builder and all-around Raw Food enthusiast describes the benefits of a raw diet very clearly:Kristen's Raw Blog. Please check it out!Although I may never be 100% Raw Diet I do think that incorporating the maximum amount of RAW uncooked fruits and vegetables into the diet is a MUST and has absolute maximum health benefits. Thinking of trying some raw recipes this week so... … [Read more...]

Mushroom and Wild Rice Soup

Mushroom and Wild Rice Soup

After my Minnesota holiday vacation, I arrived home in sunny Florida with a pack of Minnesota Wild Rice--thanks to my grandmother--a delicious whole grain that I was dying to cook up in a yummy casserole or soup. I found a great recipe in Veganomicon (great new Vegan cookbook I picked up a few months ago) and decided to give it a try. Now, I am used to a cream-based wild rice soup that my mother and grandmother have been making for years, and although I love this tasty version I have been on a … [Read more...]
