a little thought on time

My boyfriend took his Christmas tree down today. Yeah, no joke, today. As in the last day of February. He told me on the phone this afternoon, quite casually in fact. Our conversation went something like this.A: "Oh just doing a little cleaning... took down the tree, caught up on laundry... you know, boring house stuff."Me: "I'm sorry sweetie I'm not following you. You took down the tree? I didn't know you had any yard work..."A: "No the Christmas tree. I boxed it back up."Me: "You took down … [Read more...]

Grow season around the corner

Grow season is almost here! For me a little more so than most (being that I'm in warm and sunny Florida). :) Our cold snaps have finally dissipated and I'm ready to pull out my green thumb and get digging! I grow my own herbs year round but I keep the veggies until warmer season; although our change in seasons is minuscule, it's still possible to have a handful of freezes down in FL during the winter months. My growing is limited to pots and troughs on a porch--but it's still very doable. Last … [Read more...]

Wrap it up!

Wrap it up!

I decided to take a stab at a few new recipes this week. First I made a delicious cold-pressed cabbage salad. I got my idea from The Kind Life initially and altered it a bit to fit what I had on hand. It turned out SOOOO delicious! Also it's mostly raw so that is an added bonus. I added some toasted ramen noodle at the end for a little crunch but you could leave that out to make it completely raw. Pressed salads are packed full of enzymes and nutrients. The dressing is vinegar-based, which aids … [Read more...]

kitty lovin’

kitty lovin'

I've realized lately, as I scroll through my newsfeed on facebook, that the majority of my female friends in my age bracket are either a) married b) engaged c) have babies d) preggo or e) some combination of the aforementioned. Congrats to all my friends, I love you dearly, but must every status update/picture/comment be on your new hubby/hubby-to-be/kiddos/baby-to-be? Seriously. (Truthfully, I'll probably eat my words when any of the above actually happen to me.) So it's my turn to gush and … [Read more...]

Crazy Sexy Cancer by Kris Carr

My brothers came over for dinner tonight (yippee! I hardly ever get to see them being that they are both in college in Orlando...) and we got on the subject of my vegan diet, Raw eating and juicing. (Btw for dinner I made stuffed portobello mushroom caps, roasted beets with walnuts and southwestern veggie stew... so yumm and they LOVED it!) Anyway so we were talking about how nutrition really does affect how you look, how you feel and how your body functions at its maximum capacity. Both of my … [Read more...]

A little sweetness

A little sweetness

So what happens when you have cravings for naughty foods? My answer is to satisfy your craving using healthier options with moderate and acceptable portions! :) Sometimes easier said than done. I wrote in a post a few days ago that last weekend I had a non-vegan weekend and I gave into some sugary dairy-laiden treats. Well the thing is I could have satisfied my sweet tooth and still made healthier choices. Why didn't I? Convenience... pressure from others... stress... anxiety... there will always … [Read more...]

Spirulina

Spirulina

Spirulina is a lil' bit of magic in a bottle. (heh) Actually it's a microscopic blue-green algae that is cultivated around the world and used as a dietary supplement, sold in both tablet and powder form. I have taken this supplement off and on since becoming a vegetarian last year, but I ran out a couple of weeks ago and finally replaced my supply yesterday--inspiring this blog post :) I bought a Hawaiian spirulina powder, and have been adding it to my green smoothies in the morning and … [Read more...]

The truth about cage free eggs

The truth about cage free eggs

This week I have had the pleasure of enjoying my uncle Jack's company :) He is in the middle of moving from Colorado to Arkansas to be closer to his daughter, and stopped in sunny Florida along the way to visit his younger sister (my mother) and... me! hehe. He has the craziest and wildest stories and is such a hoot that I usually end up laughing all night long at our dinner parties. Sometimes I pee my pants a little...lol...you get my drift.Uncle Jack and I like to pick each other's brains and … [Read more...]

Weekend Recap. New week , fresh start.

Weekend Recap. New week , fresh start.

Soooo I'm super excited about something... I get to give a speech on the health benefits of a plant-based diet to a room full of people! Ha! Now how did this come about? I'm not famous, I'm not published...yet ;) ... and I'm not going to a Vegan conference. lol. In one of my business classes I have to give an informative speech... on whatever I want! I have 7 precious minutes allotted to me, and actually required by me, to fill with whatever topic I so choose. So of course I chose something … [Read more...]

Farmer’s Market Bliss

Farmer's Market Bliss

I had a nice little visit to one of our local Farmer's Markets this weekend. I love buying produce from the Farmer's Market because the prices are always better and I strongly believe in buying and eating local foods as often as possible. One question I get asked by my friends is if my eating habits are affordable. The number one complaint I hear is "buying fresh produce all the time is so expensive--and don't even get me started on organic!" I have several things to say about that but first of … [Read more...]
