Sangria is… well let me tell you what Sangria is.
Just what I needed tonight.
As I mentioned earlier, I enjoyed a wonderful girl’s night in with my best girlfriend tonight. We talked about her wedding planning, dined over fabulous food (I made another batch of sesame seared eggplant with braised leeks), and knocked out her bridal shower invitations. I haven’t gotten one quite perfect yet, but I’ll post some crafty pictures later.
I felt like tonight was the perfect night for homemade Sangria. Now, let me tell you, I know how to make a mean Sangria. I spent most of my college years and twenties bartending, and I’ve played with all sorts of recipes. Believe it or not a good Sangria isn’t too difficult to whip up. My favorite is white peach sangria, but I stuck with a fruity tropical red sangria tonight. I really haven’t been drinking too much these days, but umm… helloooo… the occasion called for it
Fruity Tropical Red Sangria
1 bottle red wine (I stick with organic, sulfite-free these days)
1/2 c. brandy
1 c. orange juice
1 c. somethin’ fizzy! If you want to keep it lower-cal, a generic club soda will work. I spruced it up tonight with ginger ale
1 mango, diced
1/2 c. pineapple
2 Tbs. Agave nectar syrup *not pictured, whoops!
1. Chop up all of your fruit. It’s okay to leave the rind on the citrus fruit.
2. Put fruit into a pitcher and add agave syrup, wine, OJ and brandy. Stir to combine.
3. Let sangria marinate in the refrigerator for a couple of hours (or even overnight) for optimal taste. When you are ready to serve, pull it out and add the club soda or ginger ale.
Make sure you serve it in a cute pitcher!
I don’t know if I’ve ever really mentioned this before, but I’m obsessed with kitchen-ware. One of my fav stores, Sur La Table, was carrying this cute little line of strawberry ceramics last year, and I snatched up a pitcher for myself AND my mother and grandmother for Mother’s Day. So now every woman in our family has a strawberry pitcher. It’s basically a conversation piece at every family gathering.
And, HA! They still carry it! Wow I love the internet. If you are going numb over the thought of a Mother’s Day gift this year, check out one of these little strawberry pitchers! Not only is it marked down to practically half the price I paid for it, it’s absolutely the cutest lil thing you’ll ever seen. There is a cute dip bowl and accessories to match too
Okay enough product plugging. The sangria turned out soooo yummy. If you haven’t made your own sangria yet, you must. It’s super easy and worth the effort, trust me.
Take a nice long sip… and Enjoy!
