Ch-ch-ch-Chia!

DSC04929

For awhile now I've been a skeptic of the chia seed. I've read about all the amazing nutritional stats in these lil buggers and I've wanted so badly to like them. But up until today, they were still mediocre in my book. Sure, I'd toss them into smoothies and sprinkle them over oatmeal once and awhile for that boost in Omega-3s, Protein, Calcium, Fiber and a plethora of other vitamins and nutrients. But they never wowed me.And sometimes they even bothered me. Can we say chia seeds stuck in the … [Read more...]

Cucumber Pear Juice & Siesta Lentil Salad

DSC04878

Now that I'm home from vacation, I am back to my daily juicing! (Something I missed terribly). I never thought I'd get so attached to my juicer but I sure do love that thing. I juice because I want to. I can. And I love it. Drinking fresh juice once or twice a day is a perfect energy and nutrient boost. I came up with a super simple and amazing combo yesterday. Cucumber, pear and lemon juice. Yep, it's that easy. I used 2 cukes, 2 pears, and juice from half a lemon. It comes out a … [Read more...]

What I ate Wednesday… and how to feel sexy.

DSC02788

This is sort of how my day started... First accounting course of the semester. Walked into class about 10 minutes late. Oyyy. (traffic was bad). Managed to squeeze down the row into one of the last available seats. Pulled out my textbook and notebook only to realize I bought the wrong addition. Arrrg. Reached into my bag and grabbed the ice cold Kombucha I picked up at WF earlier that morning. Kombucha explodes. All over my desk. In the middle of the lecture. It wasn't pretty. … [Read more...]

New kitchen-ware and homemade bath scrub

bowls

If you know me personally, or if you have ever read my about me page, you know that I'm obsessed with kitchen-ware. Is that the appropriate word, kitchen-ware? Basically anything that goes in the kitchen. And I'm a bit of a kitchen snob too. I like the pricey stuff. Oyyy. There is something about high quality French cookware, professional chef's knives and designer appliances that makes me weak in the knees. If I even smell a kitchen store from miles away, I must visit. One of my favorite … [Read more...]

Weekend Recap

DSC04826

This weekend was jam-packed for me! After arriving home from my Minnesota vacation on Friday afternoon, I was really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things with my normal routine before starting up work and classes on Monday. They say that it's best to return from vacation at least 3 days prior to starting your normal schedule again. (They being some sort of experts? Hmmm...) I'm glad I didn't cut it close and fly in on Sunday night because I would have missed out on some … [Read more...]

A Friday Fitness Feature: Run Girl, Run!

A Friday Fitness Feature: Run Girl, Run!

Today is a guest post by one of my favorite blogger gals, the lovely Kate Lainey from With a Heart Full of Daisies. I've been reading Kate's blog since I first started blogging, and even though we have slightly different blogging styles I feel like I can really connect with her because she always speaks from the heart. Her blog is full of gorgeous photos and ideas centered around home decorating, fashion, healthy eating and lifestyle, fitness and life's moments. She just got married this summer … [Read more...]

What I Ate Wednesday

What I Ate Wednesday

Time for another fabulous link party hosted by Jenn over @ Peas and Crayons. :) This week has been jammed pack full of vacation shenanigans but I've still had lots of yummy eats. Yes, some have been healthier than others (like all of the onion rings and bloody marys I stuffed myself with on Monday. Oyy!), but I am on vacation so I try to enjoy! But as I mentioned earlier, there are still some good ways to stay on track with healthy eating while you are on vacay. One of the best things for me is … [Read more...]

Eating healthy on vacation: a little indulgence is okay

Eating healthy on vacation: a little indulgence is okay

One of the most challenging things about vacation can be sticking to healthy eating habits. At least for me! But I also believe in enjoying special indulgences in moderation, and living in the moment sometimes, because one of life's greatest pleasures is good food. We all know that. Just this afternoon I enjoyed 2 spicy bloody marys the size of my face and shared a huge basket of french fries and onion rings as an afternoon snack with some friends, followed by a veggie burger the size of Lake … [Read more...]

Some Book Reviews

Some Book Reviews

Although I got my sweaty lil hands on this cookbook earlier this week, I decided to wait until I had completely read it to post up a review. That's the way reviews usually work anyway, right? Usually I just love to announce that I'm reading something and say, so far, so good! But that's hardly appropriate for book reviews. So I'm changing up my method. I finished two books this week so I am going to review them for you all. You're welcome. ;)Let me preface by telling you how eager and excited I … [Read more...]

Coconut Curry Rice and some north woods views

Coconut Curry Rice and some north woods views

There is something about a walk through the woods that makes me feel incredibly peaceful. It's a combination of the sights, the sounds and the smells that are so alluring. I wish I could capture that smell in a bottle and take it home with me :) Although I'm sure most of you would say the same thing about the sweet and salty sea shore that I call home! And you sure can't beat this gorgeous bike path! I take advantage as much as possible on my visits :)Makes you want to keep walking forever, … [Read more...]
