Visit from dad, hydroponic farm trip

DSC05642

This past week I had 4 exams in 5 days. That's... insanity right? Perhaps the professors all whispered behind my back to see how they could possibly make my life a bit more stressful than it already is!?  Ugh! So I've definitely let my blogging slack recently, but as you can see I've had good reason! But my exams are finally over,  so I have a bit of breathing room now! This weekend I got a surprise visit from my dad, who lives up in Minnesota with my step-mom and brothers. I was really … [Read more...]

Farmer’s market visit

DSC05499

The fall semester is over and things are also winding down with work, so I'm finding myself with more free time on my hands than I'm used to, but absolutely loving it! Enough free time that I can take off work early and squeeze in some Christmas shopping and a farmer's market visit with my mama dearest. But what would Christmas shopping be if I didn't scoop something up for myself along the way? Teehee... I'm so bad... but it felt so good, and just had to be done. My new Le Creuset oval … [Read more...]

Merry Christmas Cabbage & Kale

DSC05452

I think God had a sense of humor the day he created the pomegranate. I've never in my life experienced such a sweet, juicy and delectable fruit... that was so absurdly difficult to get at. (Although the coconut ranks high up there too). But all the hard work and time is usually worth it in the end. Health benefits of the pomegranate: Pomegranate seeds contain high levels of flavonoids and polyphenols--some pretty powerful antioxidants that fight free radicals and protect us … [Read more...]

This is what happens…

DSC05277

This is what happens when a greens-lover discovers a local hydroponic picking farm with all-you-can-pick greens. She goes buck-wild. And the last time I did anything buck wild was probably college, so that's saying a lot. ;) I used to buy greens by the bunch. Now I hoard buy them by the pound. At around $1.50 a pound, I stock up until my little heart is content. Since the farm is about an hour drive for me, I'm sticking to bi-weekly trips. And this time around guess what was finally … [Read more...]

My new Omega Vert Juicer!

DSC05205

Hey guys! So last weekend I tweeted about getting a new juicer, but I've been a little hush hush about it since. Ha! I'm such a tease. Why the suspense? Well, I wanted to really get a feel for the juicer before I gave it a review here on the blog. Using a juicer once or twice is hardly enough time for a fair and accurate review. In all honesty, I should have waited about a month but I don't have near that amount of patience ;) Introducing the latest addition to my kitchen family... the Omega … [Read more...]

Hydroponic farm visit

DSC05092

A few weeks ago my mother discovered a couple of fabulous picking farms located near her house. She called me immediately and said that I absolutely had to drive out to see her this weekend so we could take a trip to the picking farm. Of course I eagerly agreed! We spent all day picking our own produce and taking a guided tour around a local hydroponic farm. It was an amazing afternoon so I thought I'd share a few pictures. First stop was a local picking farm called Hunsader Farm in … [Read more...]

What I ate Wednesday… and how to feel sexy.

DSC02788

This is sort of how my day started... First accounting course of the semester. Walked into class about 10 minutes late. Oyyy. (traffic was bad). Managed to squeeze down the row into one of the last available seats. Pulled out my textbook and notebook only to realize I bought the wrong addition. Arrrg. Reached into my bag and grabbed the ice cold Kombucha I picked up at WF earlier that morning. Kombucha explodes. All over my desk. In the middle of the lecture. It wasn't pretty. … [Read more...]

Some lazy days and beans and greens

Some lazy days and beans and greens

I've been in a bit of a lazy mode this week. It's really easy for me to get like this and sometimes I have to sort of force myself out of my lazy hermit-like shell. Let me explain. Most days, I work from home. Most of my work with my mom's company is doable with my tush plopped right on the couch. And to make matters worse, the two classes I'm taking this summer are online. This week I'm on a tight deadline with some huge projects due early next week, so let's just say I've had a lot of … [Read more...]

New shoes cure the blues!

New shoes cure the blues!

In honor of kale week I've been starting every morning with a delicious kale smoothie. If you haven't tried kale in smoothies I don't blame you for hesitating. It sounds strange, and once upon a time I crinkled my nose at the thought. But nowadays, green smoothies are my fuel and my energy and I hardly let a day go by without one! :)If you are new to green smoothies the best green to start with is spinach, because it is so mild and you won't taste it when it's combined with fruits. After you get … [Read more...]
