Guess what gang? I’m still juice fasting! Call me crazy but 3 days turned into 4 days and before I realized it, tomorrow is my 6th day! Wowzas! After day 3 I told myself I would keep going until I ran out of the massive amounts of produce that I bought. Yeah you saw that picture in my last post right? Crazy! But I still have produce so I’m gonna keep going and make it a full week. Why you may ask? Well I’m feeling really really good. The more I read about juice fasting the more I learn. I discovered that the body doesn’t actually go into a fasting mode until day 3, because it’s still feeding off all the food stuff in your digestive system. After about 3 days all of that is used up and it goes into FASTING MODE. I’ll talk more about that in a minute.
But, first of all, I failed to discover any significant peer reviewed studies on the specific benefits of juice fasting and how it affects the body in its entirety. For those of you that don’t know what I’m talking about I mean actual medical studies that have been reviewed and validated in the scientific and medical community. A lot of the information out there is from those that have experimented with it on their own. But there are thousands of people that have done so and many of them are in the medical profession or nutrition and health field. So the information I have gathered is from miscellaneous websites, a film and a few books. But anybody out there can write this material; which means, it can be criticized. But I’m one of those people that likes to experience things on my own, which is why I’m doing this fast, and I think the true testament is the results that are shown in individuals that have done extended fasts.
According to my web research…
After 3 days your body is in fasting mode because the body has finally embraced and accepted the fast. The digestive system finally relaxes and realizes that it can take a break. During the fast, the body’s healing process is at it’s top efficiency. Immune system activity begins to increase. The body scours for dead and damaged tissues and your cells begin to repair damaged tissues and organs. The liver and kidneys get a break and repair themselves. The entire body is in a healing mode.
From my experience…
After day three, all physical cravings and desires for food practically disappear. Well, as long as your aren’t terribly tempted. When I was blog hopping today and reading up on all my cooking bloggers’ recipes and eats, I definitely had an increase in appetite. But then I downed a huge glass of green juice and I felt better! After 3 days your energy level is super high and there is an increase in mental clarity. I don’t know how to explain it other than you get a bit of a “fasting high.” Sounds kind of strange but if you experience it for yourself you will understand what I mean. I think I’m going to tackle a hot yoga class tomorrow.
In addition to fruit and veggie juice I’ve also been drinking lots of decaf green herbal tea and lemon water. I also started adding a bit of garlic and cayenne pepper to some of my juice because I read that it helps to fully clean out your intestines of old and crusty fecal matter. Gross, I know, but it’s the truth. Or you can try enemas instead. (fun stuff!)

Hope everybody has a fabulous weekend! Lots of accounting homework for me but I’ll survive! I have a really exciting opportunity to start an internship that will double as a paid job possibly this fall semester. I’ll be working at an accounting firm. Fun stuff! But internships are pretty important when graduate school is in the near future so I think I’ll tackle it. Hopefully I can juggle my graphic design job with an office job and school. Crossing my fingers at least!
