Blueberry pickin’ is the life for me

I should be celebrating!!  Tax season is officially over and I can finally breathe again. Hahaha, just kidding, actually my boss is the one who can breathe again. But I have a feeling I will be uttering these words many many times throughout the course of my life! My favorite part is that another semester is almost over, which means I'm getting closer and closer until the end! I could be sitting for my CPA exam as early as next summer. My how the time has flown by. When I first decided to go … [Read more...]

Visit from dad, hydroponic farm trip

DSC05642

This past week I had 4 exams in 5 days. That's... insanity right? Perhaps the professors all whispered behind my back to see how they could possibly make my life a bit more stressful than it already is!?  Ugh! So I've definitely let my blogging slack recently, but as you can see I've had good reason! But my exams are finally over,  so I have a bit of breathing room now! This weekend I got a surprise visit from my dad, who lives up in Minnesota with my step-mom and brothers. I was really … [Read more...]

Hydroponic farm visit

DSC05092

A few weeks ago my mother discovered a couple of fabulous picking farms located near her house. She called me immediately and said that I absolutely had to drive out to see her this weekend so we could take a trip to the picking farm. Of course I eagerly agreed! We spent all day picking our own produce and taking a guided tour around a local hydroponic farm. It was an amazing afternoon so I thought I'd share a few pictures. First stop was a local picking farm called Hunsader Farm in … [Read more...]

Berry Crumble Pie and Gardening Highlights

Berry Crumble Pie and Gardening Highlights

Whenever I'm out in Colorado I do a lot of baking. Mostly because my man-hunk has a bit of a sweet tooth, and I have lots of extra time on my hands, so what better way to spend it than in the kitchen? ;) Yesterday I whipped up a delicious berry crumble pie, that turned out moist, sweet, slightly tart and delicious. I used whole wheat pastry flour for the crust and agave nectar to sweeten. There are a plethora of articles out there dissing agave syrup, claiming that it's still a processed sugar, … [Read more...]

Special lunch and garden highlights

Special lunch and garden highlights

My grandparents treated me to lunch today and we went to one of my favorite spots in Sarasota, Station 400. I love this place because the ingredients are super fresh and the menu is exquisitely creative. There are several vegetarian and vegan options to choose from, so that makes me love it even more. I ordered the white bean hummus veggie wrap with a cup of cold cucumber and melon soup. Yes, COLD soup. SO YUMM. It was cool and refreshing, with a little bit of a spicy and salty kick. There may … [Read more...]

Orchid blossoms & black-eyed peas

Orchid blossoms & black-eyed peas

Today I was delighted to discover my first orchid flowering of the season! (It's the little things that do it for me sometimes). But really, I'm kind of proud of my meager orchid collection because I've had most of them for several years now and have gotten them through many flowerings. I've sort of grown attached to my orchid plants and each time they flower it puts a little skip in my step and a smile on my face. It's funny how Mother Nature can affect us like that.Ironically, in spite of the … [Read more...]

Iced Mint Green Tea hits the spot!

Iced Mint Green Tea hits the spot!

It sure feels like summer is here. That may be because I'm in sunny Florida, but geez the humidity has arrived. In my house I battle the AC unit. I try my best to keep the AC off for as long as I can possibly bear. That's what windows and fans are for anyway, right? But when the process of walking from one end of the house to the other causes me to perspire... (uggh) sometimes I give in and crank the lil sucker on.But with that said, I try to avoid the AC until the temp gets in the 90s. It's not … [Read more...]

Grow season around the corner

Grow season is almost here! For me a little more so than most (being that I'm in warm and sunny Florida). :) Our cold snaps have finally dissipated and I'm ready to pull out my green thumb and get digging! I grow my own herbs year round but I keep the veggies until warmer season; although our change in seasons is minuscule, it's still possible to have a handful of freezes down in FL during the winter months. My growing is limited to pots and troughs on a porch--but it's still very doable. Last … [Read more...]
