pumpkin festival

Today I spent the afternoon at the annual Pumpkin Festival here in town at Hunsader Farms, the fabulous picking farm I visit for produce. The festival draws a huge crowd, estimated at around 60,000 each weekend, and takes place for the last three weekends in October. Complete with hay rides, pumpkin launching, pony rides, a petting zoo, pumpkin patch, tons of games, food and a plethora of local and traveling vendors featuring items like wood carvings, homemade candles and soaps, canned goods, face painting, arts and crafts and so much more. It’s quite a scene and I couldn’t help but snap a few pics!

Tons of deep fried will-make-you-grab-your-stomach-in-pain-the-next-day food stuff. Like deep fried Oreos and pickles. Who comes up with this stuff!?

I loved all of the corny pumpkin displays. There is something about a pumpkin scare crown wearing a bikini that just screams take a picture with me, no? ;)

This lil guy was so ugly that he was cute! I fell in love with him and his hungry lil self. hehe.

The people watching was by far my favorite part. The crowd was highly entertaining. I saw a couple of kids on leashes (still not sure how I feel about that one), and several of what you would call redneck folks, whose demeanor left me in stitches. You know that show My Big Fat Redneck Wedding? Yeah, that was about 75% of this crowd. Ha! But I loved every minute. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention the air show!

I came home exhausted and dirty but it was well worth it! I can’t help it, I love fall. I love the smells, the colors, and everything in between. Oh yeah, and of course the food! Have you all been stalking the blogosphere lately? So many gorgeous recipes, I can’t get enough!

Dare I say I have yet to crack open a can of pumpkin this season? I better get moving! On my to-make list:

Pumpkin oats, pumpkin gingerbread smoothies, pumpkin granola, pumpkin spiced lattes, & pumpkin oatmeal cookies

I better get started! Happy weekend lovelies!

Thanks for the linky love on my pumpkin spice latte… and what a fun day you had! Thanks for sharing all these great pics of your day. I love the animal pics…I think they’re adorable :)

  2. No problem! And thank you for the recipe! I’ve been dying to recreate that fabulous Starbucks drink at home and now I have some inspiration :)

  3. Oooh I used to LOVE pumpkin festivals!! Until I found out I have an allergy to HAY! What a bummer… lol. I can take some meds, but I find it better to just stay away if I have a choice! Glad I could live it through your post! That’s funny.. kids on leashes… not sure how I feel about that one either.. except for not agreeing with (HAHA).

  4. The pumpkin festival is like Disney for all the kids! I loved watching them in the “Hay Maze”.
Glad to see and hear the spinach is ripe at the hydroponic farm- need to get myself out there soon!
I love spinach as a base in smoothies, your Aunt Karen taught me that one after you told her.
