Sesame Ginger Cabbage Slaw

This coleslaw is mostly raw, packed full of delicious cancer-fighting nutrients, fiber and protein-packed edamame. It has an orange juice, ginger and vinaigrette dressing that leaves it low-fat and low calorie. It's also gluten free and mostly raw. This recipe is amazing. I sort of threw everything together one afternoon for a refreshing low-fat coleslaw, and I discovered it to be even better tasting after marinating in the fridge overnight. Enjoy! Love the Life You Live

Is it just me or is summer really flying by? I can't believe July has nearly passed us already! It's more than halfway over and I wish it would never end. The only thing I'm happy to see out of my sight is summer school! We've had some very humid and hot weather here in Florida, but we've also had a lot of rain which helps to cool things down. My sweeti and I spent all of last weekend enjoying the beach and having our own little "staycation". We headed down to Longboat Key, for an ocean swim and … [Read more...]

Juicer review – which juicer is right for you?

Hello gorgeous.  Meet the newest member of the family.  Isn't she lovely? Stevie sure thinks so. This is an Omega 8005 masticating juicer. I snagged this baby during Amazon's deal of day a few weeks ago for my mom and step-dad. Then I called up my boyfriend in a frantic. Me: There's an Omega juicer on Amazon for super cheap. I just bought one for Mom and Rick and I think you should get one too. Snag it! He: Hmmm... I'll check it out. Me: You have to get one! I love my Omega … [Read more...]

This is what happens…

This is what happens when a greens-lover discovers a local hydroponic picking farm with all-you-can-pick greens. She goes buck-wild. And the last time I did anything buck wild was probably college, so that's saying a lot. ;) I used to buy greens by the bunch. Now I hoard buy them by the pound. At around $1.50 a pound, I stock up until my little heart is content. Since the farm is about an hour drive for me, I'm sticking to bi-weekly trips. And this time around guess what was finally … [Read more...]

My new Omega Vert Juicer!

Hey guys! So last weekend I tweeted about getting a new juicer, but I've been a little hush hush about it since. Ha! I'm such a tease. Why the suspense? Well, I wanted to really get a feel for the juicer before I gave it a review here on the blog. Using a juicer once or twice is hardly enough time for a fair and accurate review. In all honesty, I should have waited about a month but I don't have near that amount of patience ;) Introducing the latest addition to my kitchen family... the Omega … [Read more...]

Chocolate coconut chia pudding

Time for another Chia seed pudding recipe! I promised to post this for you all in my last #WIAW post. Oh geez I just hash tagged without intending to. I'm such a dork. Obviously I've been tweeting too much this week. :/ This recipe is super easy to make, and full of some tasty nutrients like omega-3s, protein, fiber and more. It's sweet enough to be dessert, but healthy enough to be breakfast or a tasty snack, and uses minimal added sugar. Chocolate Coconut Chia … [Read more...]

For awhile now I've been a skeptic of the chia seed. I've read about all the amazing nutritional stats in these lil buggers and I've wanted so badly to like them. But up until today, they were still mediocre in my book. Sure, I'd toss them into smoothies and sprinkle them over oatmeal once and awhile for that boost in Omega-3s, Protein, Calcium, Fiber and a plethora of other vitamins and nutrients. But they never wowed me.And sometimes they even bothered me. Can we say chia seeds stuck in the … [Read more...]

Raw vegan dessert? Yes please!

Raw vegan dessert? Yes please!

I came across an awesome dessert idea last night while blog surfing (we all know how addicting that can be) ;)Since I've cut out sugar and alcohol from my diet for the next couple of weeks I've been craving something sweet lately (duh!) Kris Carr's Crazy Sexy Diet recommend foods that are low on the glycemic index, but she does preach the benefits of foods with natural sugars like dates! Yummm! I love me some dates! Dates are not exactly LOW on the glycemic index but they aren't too bad either.I … [Read more...]

Wrap it up!

Wrap it up!

I decided to take a stab at a few new recipes this week. First I made a delicious cold-pressed cabbage salad. I got my idea from The Kind Life initially and altered it a bit to fit what I had on hand. It turned out SOOOO delicious! Also it's mostly raw so that is an added bonus. I added some toasted ramen noodle at the end for a little crunch but you could leave that out to make it completely raw. Pressed salads are packed full of enzymes and nutrients. The dressing is vinegar-based, which aids … [Read more...]

Crazy Sexy Cancer by Kris Carr

My brothers came over for dinner tonight (yippee! I hardly ever get to see them being that they are both in college in Orlando...) and we got on the subject of my vegan diet, Raw eating and juicing. (Btw for dinner I made stuffed portobello mushroom caps, roasted beets with walnuts and southwestern veggie stew... so yumm and they LOVED it!) Anyway so we were talking about how nutrition really does affect how you look, how you feel and how your body functions at its maximum capacity. Both of my … [Read more...]
